The cut is the quote.

Every cut at NORTHROOM carries a fixed price, agreed with you before the first section is taken. By the head, not the hour.

P01 · Placeholder plate — a chair, a window, north light.

01 — The promise

By the head,not the hour.

A clock rewards a slow cut. We would rather be quick and right, so the price is set on the head in front of us — the length, the texture, the work it actually takes — and it is agreed with you before the first section is taken.

If the cut turns out to be more work than either of us thought, that is our estimate, not your bill. The number does not move once you are in the chair.

There is no hourly rate anywhere on this page. That is the whole idea, so it is worth saying twice.

02 — The ladder

Every price, fixed.

This is the whole ladder. Nothing on it is charged by the hour, and nothing on it starts with the word “from”.

The work

03 — Six plates

The photography on this page is licensed stock standing in for a salon's own work. It does not depict NORTHROOM's staff, clients or premises. A real salon replaces these twelve files; the layout does not change.

04 — The chairs

Three chairs, three ladders.

The price is set by whoever is going to do the cutting, so it is worth knowing which chair you are booking.

05 — How a quote is made

Three steps, then it is fixed.

  1. 01

You sit down and we look

Length, texture, what grows how, and what you actually do with it on a Tuesday morning. This takes a few minutes and it is not billed.

  2. 02

    We name a number

One number, from the ladder, for the whole appointment. If what you want spans two rows, you get the combined price, not the sum.

  3. 03

    The number stops moving

Whatever the cut turns out to take, that is the price you pay. An underestimate is our problem, which is a reason for us to estimate carefully.

06 — The room

One room, facing north.

North light does not change colour through the day, which is the only reason anyone puts a colour chair under it. It is also why the price we name at eleven is the same price at four.

07 — Book

Ask for a chair.

Tell us roughly what you are after and we will come back with a time and the fixed number for it.

What happens next: nothing is transmitted. NORTHROOM is a fictional salon and this form has no destination configured, so it checks the two required fields and stops. A real deployment wires it to the address in the site’s configuration.
